Default Help - Getting WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again.

Ok. To start off I am not a web back end person. That was my exhusbands job, and well he's an ex. Told me it was easy enough so here i am. And I am sorry its so much. This is what he told me to do.

What I can't tell you off the bat is what version of ZC I am using. Part of the huge issue I am having is i can't even get to the page to look. I can tell you its older.

What I CAN tell you is. I started to log in to my admin page today to get the ref nubmer for an order I placed with a customer. I got the "time to reset your password" I couldn't remember the password so I said I forgot; put in my email address and waited. No temp password has been sent. So i got into server support with go daddy. Thought they could figure out why i wasn't getting the email. He sent me the directions from this forum on how to reset my password. I have copied and pasted our conversation so you can see what exactly I did because before I completed ANYTHING I said oh it says "this" and he would say yes or no.

I am also back in the queue for support chat since it says my store can't be found on the server

Now I get the above error on my admin AND my store says its not found on the server.

I really need help. Someone who might be patient. I can follow directions but I might ask "stupid" questions.

where i was trying to go:
    https://www.ebspromo.com/store/ebsadmin/login.php

    my store:
    http://www.ebspromo.com/store/store

    Support chat
    • You -
I hope you can help me. Starting with I am NOT a web person. My exhusband was that person and well he's an ex and not helping me anymore.
    • You -
I'm ok with computers and I can follow directions but if I ask a stupid question I am sorry
    • Chris -
Hello. Thank you for using Live Chat! My name is Chris. What information may I help you with today?
    • You -
OK. I went to log into my admin side of ebspromo.com
    • You -
and it said mypassword expired and i had to set a new one. enter old password then enter new
    • You -
i tried several times but it kept saying it wasn't accepted. I assume its cuz i wasn't putting in the right old password
    • You -
sooooo. I requested a reset of my password cuz i couldn't remember it (i am sure its been more than 90 days since I reset it)
    • You -
so i clicked and put in my email ###removed###
    • Chris -
When you say admin side of your website. Is this into your server, or to your website admin control panel?
    • You -
and nothing has come with the temp pass
    • You -
    https://www.ebspromo.com/store/myadmin/login.php
    • You -
and now it says my stored password is wrong so I am kind of locked out.
    • You -
i just need to get a reset so i can get in
    • You -
im on the hosting control center, exploring while I waited and found the password vault, but I'm not sure what password it wants so I didn't want to mess with that either
    • Chris -
Okay. I wouldn't be able to help you find your old password for your admin log in. You may need to enter the database to change the password manually.
    • Chris -
What vendor do you use for your store?
    • You -
    its zencart
    • You -
how do i do that? the server doesn't generate the email to reset the password? sorry that may be one of those stupid questions
** section removed by moderator **
    • You -
ironically the only way i know how to see the password I need the password.
    • Chris -
Thank you. Okay. You would need to enter your server control panel for that domain and edit the password via phpMyAdmin. this information here will help you.
    • You -
oh please don't leave me lol. I don't know ANYTHING about this....
    • Chris -
I can only provide you information to help you. I can't walk you through it. You'll need to access Plesk and update the password via phpmyadmin.
    • You -
when it says open phpmyadmin i don't know what that is
    • You -
it says supplied by hosting company
    • Chris -
phpMyAdmin is a userinterface for your MySql database. When you have your own server, what ever control panel you use. In this case. Plesk. Plesk provides the tools necessary to run your website. We just supply the server for you to use.
    • You -
ok how do i get to that, plesk, thru my account?
    • You -
like under support on the HCC it says launch plesk
    • Chris -
    Correct
    • You -
i told you i don't know that much
    • You -
ugh. it says your connection is not private. attackers might be trying to steal your info from 185.168.134.246 (for example passwords, messages or cc)
    • You -
there's a link that says advanced and a blue button that says go back to safety
    • Chris -
That's fine, click advanced and continue
    • You -
now its asking for username and password
    • You -
i have never logged into plesk
    • Chris -
    Username is *********
    • Chris -
    Password is your server password.
    • Chris -
If you do not remember your password you'll have to do a password reset.
    • Chris -
To reset the password: 1. Log into your customer account. 2. From the 'My Products' list, select 'Servers' 3. Click 'Launch Manager' next to the Server account that you would like to manage. The Hosting Control Center opens in a new window. 4. Click 'Support: Reset Password', make the change, and allow the system up to 30 minutes for the change to take effect.
    • You -
ok do i get more than one chance? I have a file w/ passwords but I'm not sure its been updated. exhusband did it.
    • You -
and is suppose to send me an email too? because that's the problem I am not getting emails
    • You -
i don't want to lock myself out of this too
    • Chris -
No. If you need a password reset you have to use the information provided above to reset the password.
    • You -
ok. i was just afraid to reset and then not get email. I reset it
    • Chris -
Okay. It can take up to 30 minutes for the password to reset.
    • You -
ok., yea i saw that. sooo if i do the resend password in the directions you sent me once i can log in to plesk is that coming from a different place?
    • You -
obviously that would be the ideal outcome
    • You -
    I'm in plesk. it reset
    • Chris -
Well, the password you are wanting to reset is for your store front. Which, we provide only limited support for, in regards, will give you information to help you. After your signed into Plesk, you can access the phpMyAdmin for that domain and use the instructions provided.
    • You -
ok i see it sais my webspaces with ebspromo.com
    • You -
or a nav bar on the right
    • You -
or go to domains then i see a lis of domains including files.ebspromo.com (subdomain
    • You -
and then ebspromo.com (2 an alias and one that says website) the have a link that says open in control panel
    • Chris -
You'll need to find the domain in question and open the control panel for it. then look for database's.
    • You -
first. I want to say thank you for helping me so far. Its made this a lil less stressful.
    • You -
ok i am under websites and domains for ebspromo.com webspace
    • You -
when i click databases it brings up ebspromo_zencart
    • You -
as a link (there is also a copy of the same
    • You -
and wordpress obviously not what im looking for so click the ebspromp_zencart
    • You -
    ?
    • You -
that brings up anotehr link that says ebspromo_zc
    • You -
which takes me to "set up credentials for database user account ebspromo_zc in ebspromo_zencart database.
    • You -
it sais old db name (ebspromo_zc)
    • You -
database username (looking for a response) then old password is saved and asks for new password.
    • You -
so if i understand if i don't want to change the user name just dont put an entry in there? and change the password?
    • Chris -
    Correct
    • You -
    ok.
    • You -
when i go to the ebspromo.com/store/ebsadmin page now
    • You -
it says "WARNING: an error occurred, please refreshe the page and try again
    • Chris -
You may just need to clear your cache
    • You -
    stupid question to follow
    • You -
    how do i do that
    • You -
    Im in phpmyadmin
    • You -
    and i see 3 things
    • You -
    1 cache entry name
    • You -
    2 cache_data
    • You -
    3 cache_entry_created
    • You -
they all have actions in a table. chance drop browse distinct values primiary unique index More
    • You -
    which says add spatial index
    • Chris -
I wouldn't be able to walk you through this as it is not something we support. Information provided is all I can give at this point.
    • You -
how or who do i contact to find out how to clear my cache?
    • You -
i can't even get to the login page now
    • Chris -
I'm referring to your browser cache
    • You -
    oh just through internet options?
    • Chris -
    Correct
    • You -
    ok thanks hang on
    • You -
ok. still get the warning no log in page. who or where do i go to get help if you can't?
    • Chris -
You would want to visit zencart vendor site actually and their forums. That would be your best resource.
    • You -
i feel even more lost now. because I can't even get to a log in page and I don't know what I'm looking for to fix in
    • Chris -
Yes. The link provided is for the zen-cart vendor site. You can visit their forums and FAQ pages for more on how to use their application.
    • You -
i get that much but I don't know what I'm looking for.
    • You -
i dont know what happened to lose my log in page other than I tried to reset the password
    • Chris -
I understand you are looking for guidance, but I can't help you with your application. I can only help you get into your server and your Plesk control panel. I would visit the vendor forums, and provide the issue you are having and any screen shots that you can provide.
    • Chris -
I just wanted to check in and make sure you're still with me. This conversation has been idle for over 5 minutes. As I am currently assisting other customers, if we don't receive a response in the next 5 minutes this chat will be disconnected.
    • You -
    i am
    • You -
    just trying to register.
    • You -
just not sure what to ask. I guess my problem is i lost my login page after resetting? I can copy and paste this conversation?
    • Chris -
That's not really going to help you. I provided you information to update your password via phpMyAdmin. You can link that reference I provided. Other than that. There isn't much else that can be provided in this chat as this has to do with your application and not your server.
    • You -
well it says exactly what i did.
    • You -
because i doubled checked before i did the password change. that might help someone
    • You -
they have to know what i did to create the issue
    • Chris -
Okay. The thing is, there is not anything I can do to help you with this. I gave you information to help you log in to Plesk to access your phpMyAdmin. The rest, you are going to have to resolve through the zencart vendor site.
There is no guidance I can give you from here.
    • You -
I am not saying you are. I was asking what to say my issue was. and that if i copied this chat it would show them what happened to get me where I am that you're unable to help with

The behavior of the links you provided suggest that your Zencart installation is in the 'root' directory of your site (ebspromo.com), and not in ebspromo.com/shop/shop. They also suggest that your Zencart installation can't find your database.

Since you can get into Plesk, use the File manager to see if the Zencart files are in the root, and check the includes/configure.php and admin/includes.configure.php files to see that your database name, login and password are correct. Sorry, but that's as simple as I can make it, and if you're going to continue to administer your store, you'll need to be able to do this stuff.

Agree and will add a few additional observations.. The customer support person in this chat session either didn't know what they were doing or didn't care or misunderstood the OPs question, but it's CLEAR from the chat log that he guided her through changing her DATABASE password when the REAL issue was the OP was unable to access her shops back-end administration panel.. Now she is unable to see the backend login page because the database password now no longer matches what is in the shop and admin configure.php files..

When the OP pasted in her chat log, she pasted in her username and PIN number.. Wouldn't take much for anyone with BASIC knowledge to figure who her host was and gain access to her Plesk cPanel, and so a LOT of damage to this site..

The OP pasted the directory for her store's admin panel. ALSO a BIG no no.. The URL for the admin login should be a SECRET..

Finally if the OP is not going to be able to manage her own site administration, she is going to need to consider paying someone to help her with her site administration matters.. From reading the chat log with her hosting company, IMHO she is nowhere near being able to do this. This last comment is not meant to insult or offend the OP.. This isn't a BAD thing.. I can't build an engine for my car, and if my engine builder friend said this to me if I told them I wanted to build a supercharged engine for my car, I wouldn't be offended.. What I am saying here is an HONEST evaluation of the information presented thus far, and I could candy coat this, but I find that there's never a good reason to candy coat the truth.

I beleive that the OP is going to find it difficult to get help on this forum without first having a good understanding of some basics that even the most green shopowners come to this forum with.. In other words, no one expects the OP to know programming, PHP, or javascript persay, but if one doesn't know the difference between the cPanel, myPHPAdmin, and Zen Cart logins it will be VERY difficult for anyone to assist with even BASIC questions.

Diva I wouldn't take offense, I wouldn't expect you to be able to do my job either. :)

I know I am not qualified. My ex husband was the admin. For a while he was willing to help, then it stopped (when I got a bf). So I haven't had any issues that I couldn't handle in the last 2 years. The PROBLEM was, and still is, that the requested password reset email is not making it to my inbox. They say there is communication with the relay but that's as far as they'll go with me.

Godaddy sent me to this forum to find help on resetting my "app password" because they couldn't. I told them I had no idea what I was even suppose to be asking. After this is handled, I'll be switching to a more supported server and I have made contact with two locals that i can call if I have issues.

In a few words.. GoDaddy SUCKS as a hosting provider.. If you want better hosting and better support, there are certainly better hosts out there than GoDaddy

    • Camelot
    • InMotion

to name two hosting companies that I LIKE..

Also IMHO, you need to stay clear of ANY hosting company owned by the Endurance Internet Group..
Who is Endurance International Group (EIG)?

If I may speak plainly again.. a supported server isn't the answer for you though at this time.. Moving AWAY from GoDaddy is a GREAT idea as they are a terrible webhosting company in my professional opinion.. But a supported server won't solve what appears to be your immediate needs.. Let me explain..

Your ex-husband is right.. IF you want to put the effort in, you CAN learn how to do this mostly on your own.. The question you need to answer is what ROLE do you want to play in your site's maintenance?? If you simply want to be the OWNER and manage your products and sales, this is easy enough to learn, and you WILL need to hire a professional to handle the webmaster duties..

    OR..

Do you want to not only be the siteowner, but the WEBMASTER as well.. As the webmaster, you will need to learn how to keep your store's code and files up to date. You will need to know how to perform periodic backups, and how to restore your site should a disaster happen. You will need to know how to add or REMOVE features from your store as your business changes. You will need to learn a little HTML, CSS, and occasionally some PHP to take on becoming your own webmaster.

As you move forward you will need to make some very important decisions.. Should you decide that you want to try and handle the webmastering duties, this forum is a great resource for Zen Cart questions. There are TONS of resources on the web to help you learn HTML & CSS. If you decide you want to hire a webmaster, this forum is also a great place to find that resource as well..
