    Default SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host

    I am setting up a new email address. I am using the settings that my managed webhost guy suggested, but I get an error message that says:
    "Email Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host".

    I am attaching a screen shot of my zencart admin email settings. Can someone please tell me what is wrong.

    To make it use your credentials to log in, you need to specify SMTPAUTH, not SMTP.

    Thanks DrByte. Must be something else too since that didn't work. Still get same error. Could it be the port?

    Could be your host doesn't allow traffic on that port.

    Could be your old version of Zen Cart. Newer versions use newer code for making connections to outside services such as email. In the past I've had no trouble using the instructions from the link I shared when setting up gmail accounts on v1.5.1, but I suppose maybe Google has changed something. Or, again, it could be your server.
