Default Possible Solution for cPanel Users with Admin Errors

I was poking around in the cPanel of problematic website that had problems where the admin portion of the site would not load or would partially load.

I followed the fix for the T_STATIC error using PHP 5.2.14-to-5.2.17 and instead of a completely blank admin, it gave me a partially loaded admin.

My next thought was to look for the PHP version and post here for help, instead I found something that fixed the problem.

This is in the HostGator cPanel, towards the bottom, look for Php Configuration

Click on it then look at what it says for "The ".php" file extension will be processed by..."; mine was set for 5.2 which is an older version and no longer supported. I changed it via the dropdown menu to PHP Cur () and the problem was solved and the site is working perfectly now with no errors.

Default Re: Possible Solution for cPanel Users with Admin Errors

While not specifically familiar with that cPanel, it appears that the new selection is now dependent on whatever the host chooses to install as the most recent as compared to picking a specific version. Therefore (if correct) it would seem that if the host upgrades their version of php, whatever happens to the site happens.

Now if there is no option similar to what is current, then I would say I'm wrong. If there is an option equivalent to the current version, I would recommend choosing the specific version (take control of the setup.)

Otherwise, yes, using the version(s) compatible to the software's requirements tends to work best.

Good catch. Thanks for sharing it.

I do recommend that you choose the newest version they offer, as that will reveal any compatibility issues to you long before it's urgent to fix them.
