Total after Coupon Applied Not Showing

When a coupon code is applied, it doesn't display the amount after discount is applied.

Here's what we get right now:
Total: $4,504.25
Discount Coupon: bulk : -$1,075.81
-----then it doesn't show a third line at all that is the amount with discount applied.

We recently upgraded everything to 1.5.3 and I've went over every file and I can't find where the problem comes from.

We had the problem before the upgrade and also afterwards. We are using One page responsive checkout now (FEC before) and figured installing a brand new checkout would fix it but it didn't.

Does anyone know what files I should check for this? I went over all the ones that made sense and I can't figure it out.

- which ones are enabled?
- which ones have Green dots next to them?
- what are the sort orders for all of them?

Shipping          ot_shipping      200        
Sub-Total         ot_subtotal      100    
Tax               ot_tax           300
Total             ot_total         999
