Hi, have no idea where to start to upgrade. help????![]()
Hi, well first off, would say that you've taken a good first step. Now, for some good reading.
I expect Dr. Byte in his eternal helpfulness will swing by and amplify/assist in anything to be said. This can be a very good thing. :) he wrote some guidance: http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-...d-of-upgrading that when followed makes the process rather easy and BEST of all keeps your existing site functional... Please, don't try to beat the process, don't try to cut corners... I expect that you are an intelligent individual or why else would you be using Zen Cart.
Come back and ask questions... Someone here will be glad to help as able.

Certainly feels that way, I know.
I don't want to make light of what is described (which also provides some information about why things are done the way they are), but it's a rather straight forward process from the big picture side.
I'll be honest, I'll probably muck up the description of the steps, but the way I look at it, build the site elsewhere, prove that the upgrade process works, make the new site be the new site...
Things to have on hand:
A backup copy of your live site
A backup copy of your site's database
A copy of an unmodified version of ZC (www.zen-cart.com/getit)
A good ftp program.
A file comparison tool such as winmerge or Beyond Compare
Access to your cPanel (or equivalent)
A new database at your host (mySQL)
Knowledge of your DB_PREFIX from (includes/configure.php)
How to upgrade your version of PHP on your host
Information applicable to the issues already identified with the version to which you are upgrading. Ie. ZC 1.5.4:http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...s)-with-v1-5-4 as you are likely to have to apply the "patches" to support upgrade using at first PHP 5.2.17.
And lastly chocolate chip cookies as I hear they are the best kind of cookie and go well with milk. :)

Ok MC12345678 thank you for all your info! Including the cookies!!!!
Quite welcome. Btw, short story about the cookies. One zenner asked a question similar to what kind of cookies does ZC use? One somewhat late punchy night one of the more jovial zenners humourously responded: chocolate chip with other detail about how good they were and actually asked a serious question to get back on track. Needless to say the original poster had obviously had a stressful day and went on to express their frustration and if I remember correctly didn't answer the question asked. Anyways, my point: it will get stressful, there will be moments of misunderstanding, at times one might feel helpless. In the end though? Running a business... The hard work will bring in sales... Sales will mean you can get more cookies.![]()
