I have Stock by Attributes installed. If I upgrade to 154, will that get messed up?

Not if it is merged smartly, though at the same time there is a version that while still considered in Beta, seems to be working overall... It is maintained under potteryhouse'k github section. The most up-to-date changes are reflected in the mc12345678_ZC154 branch which is compatible with ZC 1.5.3 as well.
