    Default Question about responsive templates

    Hi all,

Please excuse my naivete in this matter. As i haven't worked with responsive templates yet and I have noticed a couple that I was looking at to install on a test site I have locally on one of my PCs have SQL scripts.

Some only have one script, at least one had 1 script labelled new, and that same had upgrade resposnive 1.0 - 2.0 and 2.0a. WHne do I need to use them?

My test site has the Classic Green and the responsive template Devine fine. Which script would I use to install respon Classic Silver and SHeffield Blue?

Also, I noticed that these templates are replacing some core files in includes/modules/pages, as I am testing trying to find a template layout I like, would it make better sense to make a template folder in that location and place the appropriate file in it?
    Thanks for the help.

You would want to use the new SQL file unless you are upgrading.

As replacing core files isn't completely uncommon in responsive templates, I would do the following.

    1.) Create a new/vanilla install.
2.) Copy the install for the number of templates you want to try. PLUS one.
3.) Keep the extra copy to create new copies as then you can quickly create a vanilla install in minutes.

Includes/modules/pages folders do not have an override that would "help" in this case...

Further if you don't follow bislewl's suggestion of simply having multiple sites (each with their own database) then if you go some route of filenaming be sure that only the file(s) to be loaded in the pages subfolder end with .php. Don't rename header_php.php as header_php_old.php as header_php_old.php will still get loaded.

Thanks for the advice bislewl and mc12345678,

WIll try that, and if I want to keep the old copy if it is ok to rename header_php.php to header_php.old? Also, had a question, how can a user switch to non-resposnive mode if they are on a desktop or laptop computer if I am using a responsive template?

DO NOT rename to something to .bak, .bk, .old, etc. If anything rename to .txt. those others will cause a PCI fail

No need, it is responsive for a reason: respond to the device, and window size.
