Display Message / Notification on Page Load

Greetings,

We've all seen them when browsing around the web...Looking for a way to display a message / notification box (like a popup, but not) on page load that once closed, will not open again during current session (cookie / session based?).

Would be great if it could use jquery. Has anyone coded something like this they could share?

Those 'boxes' are popups to me, and nothing makes me leave a site faster, other than audio/video which runs on page load.

I agree with you regarding the annoying uninvited windows / box / dialog "popups". However, I have found that it can be informative to customers if used wisely such as letting your customers know about an up-coming event or change in terms, etc. And implemented for a limited time.

I had looked at the plugin you suggested. It's similar to what I was looking for, but isn't cookie / session based.

Anyone else what to chime in with a suggestion?
