...after spending so much time on so many sites getting the category sidebar to permanently expand, now I need to learn how to shrink it back down again! LOL

I've been using CH_Category, and it works great for expanding the category sidebar. But there are way too many subcats on this site (http://scentsandsilver.com/products/) and we haven't even finished adding subcategories yet.

How can I collapse the categories again, so that the subcats only show up when someone does a mouseover on the sidebar?

Does not the mod you are using give you the option to change that? Can you be more specific on what mod you are using?

The mod is called ch_category. There were no instructions included with it...just "install this and use it." So no, not really. Sorry. I've used it on many sites to expand categories...I'm hoping someone knows a way for me to tweak ch_category so it can expand or not according to my needs.

The only reference I can find to that mod is a thread started in 2006, incorporated into Categories Dressing in 2009, and last discussed in 2011. That a LOT of years in geek time.
I doubt it is compatible with 1.5.4 as it is supposed to add items to the YOUR_ADMIN >> Configuration >> MyStore
The method used to add items to admin menus changed drastically in the 1.5 series. That may be why you see no options to undo the subs.
Categories Dressing was last updated in 2009 for version 1.3.8

I think that's the Categories dressing mod, and there's an extensive readme file in the package. You can download it from the Plugins area.
