Default COWOA Not Working, Problems With Setting Up New Customer Accounts

The website www.lauralovecraft.com is about to go live, and we're about to move it from a temporary location on our server (http://borumapublishing.com/llcraftp...ns.com/library) to www.lauralovecraft.com. However, before we can do that, we have to get every part of it working properly...and although all the products are properly listed, the ordering section is having some problems.

We installed COWOA, and made sure every part was properly done. The five different setting selections were showing up properly under Configuration / COWOA Configuration...but since it didn't seem to be working properly (COWOA doesn't show up when a customer tries to test-buy a book) we re-installed it just to make sure nothing had been missed. Now the entire Configuration / COWOA Configuration page is empty...although the category heading is still there...and, of course, the COWOA itself still isn't showing up on the Order page. What happened?

Also, we specified under Minimum Values that no street address of any kind (including the City, State, Zip, or Telephone Number) was necessary. Why bother when it's digital books, right? And we also have the shipping set to Free Shipping, and the Customer Details page has all values for Company and Address Line 2 set to False. But it still insists that a person submit their full personal information.

I don't know what went wrong with the COWOA, and I'm a little afraid to mess with it without expert guidance, in case I screw things up even more. But I have to believe the other part is something simple that was overlooked. I just don't know what it could be, since we mirrored the settings precisely from another site that's been working perfectly for years.

    Help, please?? Thank you!!

Start here for the COWOA blank page:

Thanks, Stevesh, I'll definitely do that. I don't know if it's going to help, though, because the only "blank page" is the Configuration / COWOA Configuration screen on the admin console; the rest of the site looks just fine.

Our more pressing concern right now is why we specified that no personal information is necessary, but it's still requiring customers to fill out the entire thing.

Just looking at the site, I'd guess you don't have COWOA installed or configured properly, but I've never used it, so I probably can't be much help there. One question comes to mind - if you can get the signup fields the way you want them, would you need COWOA? Also, I see that your customers might desire anonymity, but understand that your payment processor is going to need the address information anyway.

    There's also this:

I like that No Shipping module! Not sure if that will apply as she may eventually try selling some paperbacks...but perhaps we can make a notation, if/when, on the page itself that the customer needs to contact the author directly to arrange for shipping on those few items. I'll check with her and see what she thinks.

As to the other...I don't think most people realize that the same information is stored whether they use the COWOA or whether they sign up for a membership. On a site like this, anonymity is important to many people...so if they have to sign up, they're likely to back away and go elsewhere. So yes, at some point, we are going to want to get that COWOA working.

As for the cc processing...for the foreseeable future she'll be using Paypal...and anyone who uses Paypal already has their information stored there. So it doesn't need to be entered onto Laura's site, because they'll be using their Paypal login to tie the payment with the purchase.

Still need a solution...why is the shopping cart insisting on full address details when we specified no details were necessary? Site can't go live until this is fixed, so please? Anyone?

Did you check your /logs folder for error log files?

Setting the Minimum Values of the street address, etc. doesn't remove those fields from the Create Account page. It just makes them non-required. You would have to edit the code of that page to remove the fields. Set them all to zero and try creating an account with just email address and password - should work.

The No Shipping module will work, but if she wants to sell actual stuff, anything you do now will probably not work for that. Getting the COWOA mod working would likely be the best path, but you'll have to see if you have any error files and we can go from there.
