So, I'm trying to add a new product. Previously, flat rate has been working and I have by weight as an option, but flat rate is cheaper. Now I want to add a new product that I do not want to offer flat rate. I found this thread and tried the code, but it's not working

You could create a new category containing all products which are not 'allowed' to use flat rate.

Then apply/adapt the code in this thread:

You will need to apply that hack to your flat rate module and adapt accordingly.
