Default Re: Customer Not Being Charged For One Item On Their Order-Random Problem

OK, I am back in front of a computer and can answer your questions. First, I am not using attributes to control stock. I just put in the quantity I have and let it go that way. I don't need to tightly control my inventory, so I don't complicate it.

Second, I think that is a good idea, to resolve the problem so it won't get out of hand, but how? I have spent this sort of time on it and am not an expert in Zencart by a long shot. Is there someone I could hire to help with this? I have passing understanding of Zencart and have been able to get through most problems, but this one...I think it smells like it's out of my pay grade and it would take someone who is an expert in PHP and zencart to get to the bottom of it.

I drive a car, but I am not a mechanic. I can fix a flat tire but getting the fuel injection system to time right is out of my circle of confidence.

I am wondering if it would be wiser to just cut the Gordian Knot, reinstall my site on a new copy of ZenCart and put on the plug ins I have, migrate the data to it and hope that leaves behind whatever thing was bothering me in my current set up. I can spend a ton of money and time on the verge of the Xmas shopping season trying to hunt down what esoteric thing is causing my troubles, or just wipe the slate clean and get a new one. What is your opinion? Do you think that I could solve my problems by getting a new copy of Zencart.

Idea or Suggestion Re: Customer Not Being Charged For One Item On Their Order-Random Problem

In the interest of science, I thought I would pass this along. Sure taught me a thing or two. It looks as if the $0 items were harmless remnants from old abandoned shopping carts AND I repurposed some of the categories and they picked up new perfume names BUT the old abandoned orders showed up with the new perfume names attached. They were $0 because there was no option specified on any abandoned shopping basket orders prior to the new shopping cart being installed. Esoteric stuff. Something you would never suspect.

If you want to read the entire exchange, start at the bottom and work your way up. It starts with my showing a copy of the PayPal invoice (identification erased here) as an example and then the conversation starts. I am sure that I have used improper terms on some things but I think you can deal with that.

I did hire someone to do this but I have erased the name because I am not sure that it would not be construed as advertising, and I really don't want to break the rules here.

I do hope this fixed the problem. I have a feeling it did. I would also like to thank the good folks on zencart.com for sticking with me through this puzzling adventure. Maybe we are all wiser for it.

But you said you re-used those products in Sept. So I am thinking anything before Oct 1st this year.

Your long shot sounds like that is the issue with those orders. If you re-used old products to build these new ones, it was possibly they had the old one in a saved basket.

We should probably remove any saved baskets from before you re-purposed those product listings. What date should we go from?

Yes, the relaunch was June 22. The site was relaunched with dropdown options (different sizes).

Alas, I need to call your attention to two orders. The reason they are a problem is because they both contain products which were not made or offered before June 22. They could not have been saved in a basket because they were not made yet. Two examples are: 12274 where the product "The Scent of Night' shows as $0.00 and was only introduced in September, it is item #1, and order # 12268 with both items priced at $0.00 and neither one being available before September.

Is it possible that these people had saved baskets and somehow the system substituted the new products for the old ones and assigned a value of $0.00 to them? Just grasping at straws here.

You are right about order 12426, all of the $0.00 products are indeed older products, and would fit right into your logic.

The only other loophole I can think of is that I might have reused a category which had been turned off (repurposed it from, say, Spring 2014 to Summer 2015 and any old baskets from the original collections would have been marked as $0.00, but that is a real long shot.

I hope I have made this clearer rather than less clear for you. ---Fabienne

June 22nd was the re-launch? With products now having drop-down options?

This is the issue for certain. The saved baskets before that date do not have the option selected (for example, Size - 6ml). As pricing it now attached to the option selected, the cart is calculating a zero price.

The solution is to remove the saved baskets from before this date.

Hmmmm. Both customers did have accounts, one (the one with the 7 $0 items) may have had a saved basket...for sure she had picked them out and then did not buy them.

This is interesting: "-$0.00 price is due to the missing option on the product"--What missing option? I think this may be a cause. (Good news, I think)

The drop downs were added just after the new site/template was put up, just after. I needed to have that on there before I let people shop.

It sounds like progress is being made. What is the missing option you are talking about? Thanks---Fabienne

    Haven't uncovered too much yet.

    - appears both customer already had accounts (and possibly a saved basket)
    - $0.00 price is due to the missing option on the product.

Are the drop-downs for sizes something you just added recently?

    Hi Fabienne.
The 3 perfumes are correct. I was deciding on which ones to buy and forgot to delete those other 7 when I made my final decision. Sorry for the confusion.

Hello -It looks like you didn't get charged for the other perfumes you ordered. I don't know what went wrong but it looks like you intended to buy 10 perfumes but only 3 "took". Would you like me to invoice you for the other 7? Please let me know. I need to take a look at this and see what happened. Sorry for the inconvenience! Fondly, Fabienne from Possets Perfume.
