How to download directly off product info page

I have downloads available to my clients. These need to be available directly off the page, and not as part of the checkout process.

When I set up a download link to another website, the download works perfectly:

Navigate to our site here and click on the parts diagram PDF link at the bottom of the product info page.

As you see, this takes you to our supplier's site where the files are stored in their repository.

I have now started loading files in the file folder my_site/download/file_name.pdf so that we can have our own file repository.

When you click on the link e.g. here, then click on the Additional Info link, you get a server error message.

How can I get the downloads to work directly off the product info page only our domain.
