    Default Issue with shipping modules

Not sure if this is the right place to post, please direct me if I am in the wrong area. Currently running a version 1.3.9 site and it uses various shipping modules. two of these are freeshipper, and canadapost. recently something has changed with the Canada post api that causes an xml error to be returned to the server when a cart is allowed free shipping (contains only items that are elligible for free shipping) So what I want to do is IF the cart is elligible, completely omit the canada post option. I have dug through various files, templates, classes and modules and cannot for the life of me figure out how to determine if the cart being checked out is free shipping eligible! is there a global variable or session variable that is set upon cart checking that I can use? What file(s) should I be modifying to correct this? I believe class file shipping.php, but perhaps there is a better place? Any assistance anyone can provide is greatly appreciated, I am at a complete loss here I do hope my description of the issue makes sense, but if not, please let me know.

What constitutes free shipping for you and your store?

The modifcation(s) necessary will be in the includes/modules/shipping directory to the shipping module to disable. There is a section typically towards the beginning of the file where $this->enabled is set to true or false. It is usually around this point that the status is changed or set based on the criteria defined.

that would make sense, but viewing the file freeshipper.php (a freely available shipping plugin I believe) all I can see is that it checks to see if the module itself is enabled. However, something somewhere has to determine if (and this will answer your first question) free shipping is an available option for all items in the buyers shopping cart. with this plugin, free shipping isdetermined at the product level (per product), for free shipping specials. I believe the author was Ajeh, going to drop them a line and see if they might have some input. Thanks!

I do not use canada post, but freeshipper is triggered by the conditions set in the functions_general.php file in the function zen_get_shipping_enabled ...

This checks the cart in various ways to see if the cart qualifies as being all Free Shipping such as:
1 all products are marked as Always Free Shipping
2 all products are Virtual products
3 total weight of the cart is 0

you might ask on the Canada Post thread about issues you are having with it ...

So freeshipper is one shipping method that is actve/activated when the conditons are met to prvde free shipping... Ie, when there is say no weight to the products, they are all virtual, etc...

Perhaps I didn't understand the situation then, are you saying that if a store offers the possbility of free shipping then canadapost errors out? I know I have seen at least one other that has had problems wth canadapost in the last couple of days. Their solution was to completely disable canadapost for the time being and collect shipping through one of the other shipping methods. It would be interesting to look at the code andsee where this check of other available shipping options is made...

nope, but close. for some reason if the cart is elligible for free shipping, then xml return status from canada post shows an error returned. however, if the cart is NOT eligible for free shipping, then canada post quote works perfectly fine. So what I want to do is check cart to see if eligible for free shipping and if so, do NOT display canada post option, only all other options including free shipping. otherwise, display all available shipping modules. I think Ajeh has pointed me in the right direction :)

SOLUTION: Thanks Ajeh, I found that simply by adding the conditional check if (zen_get_shipping_enabled('freeshipper') == false){) to the canadapost function, i have modified the behaviour as I wished. Thanks all!

Now question is, was the function used to completely disable canada post, or was it used to possibly modify the quote that would get sent to canada post so that perhaps at least a time to receive the package could maybe be determined or other such data that wouldn't be affected by "free" shipping? Otherwise may want to also consider that if you are/were going tosend by canada post anyways that there be some check on that page explaining. Why canada post is not listed but to expect receipt through them. Just thinking...
