Is there something special about PDFs?

I have uploaded a PDF catalogue to the images directory and changed the permissions to 777 then 644 but cannot open it in the browser.

The error I'm getting is 403: You don't have permission to access /store/images/Mcdonalds-Catalogue_2015-2016.pdf on this server.

I can view JPGs etc in the same folder. Help?

Try placing it in the downloads directory

Pdfs are not typically considered images; however, if that is from where you want to try to serve pdf files then need to allow them in the .htaccess file in the images directory... Where you see jpg, gif, etc. You would want to add pdf in the same format(s) and style.
