Coupon: spend x amount get product y at no cost auto added to your order.

Not sure if this is possible with my version of Zen, but my client would like a promotion where if the customer spends at least $100.00 AND enters a coupon code the cart will add a particular product to the order at no additional cost, but add the free product's weight to the order and calculate shipping on the total weights.

He has a products that he things isn't well known and/or needs people to just try it and they will like it. So he wants to push it out there by advertising that if you spend $100 in the store you get a $50 item for free. And that $50 item is this product he want's to get into people hands.

I have a feeling this is beyond ZenCarts ability, but thought I'd ask in here before I give up on it. :-) I do see thatsoftwareguy has a mod that will do it, but I didn't like that it feels incomplete because the details of the sale have to be manually added to a PHP file rather than just using the admin to make all the setup of a coupon. And I think his prices are too high. And lastly, those kind of mods make upgrading zc later to be more of a hassle than it already is. :-) If it's doesn't use the template system for making alteration I tend to stay away. I hate upgrading ZC to new versions, it as painful as doing a new install. IMHO.
