Default Multiple Templates As an option

    Hi

is it an option to be able to run two templates and have a "classic version" of the website for users with older browsers?

This would be a great feature.

    Thanks

As you likely know, you can always have more than one template "installed", but the issue comes down to being able to access the "other" template(s) that are not the store's active template. Not so much for you, but others that read this thread, the "classic version" of the template that you are considering should really be a new/copy of the classic template so that you still always have that to which to defer; however, also have the template that is "functional" with older browsers..

To that end there is an plugin that has been written to address a similar condition Dynamic Skin. As to the need to work with "older" browsers, hopefully you aren't doing this to support say Internet Explorer 6 or something like that, but instead browsers that may not be capable of handling the content of your more modified template... Reason I state this is that I would suggest focusing on what is your main/primary business aspect of your site rather than the far outliers...

    Hi

Thanks for the pointer, i mainly wish to do it to be more browser compatible, the theme I'm using doesn't work right on i.e. 8 so i've been looking at this as a possibility, also most of the target market using i.e 8 may still wish to use the old theme which they are more used to anyway.

I get that. IE 8 is still somewhat in play at this time. The "hardest" thing I see is in presenting the current "complex" template on such browsers such that it is easy to "see" or find possibly the link or other method to switch to the "classic" template. :)

Just an fyi, of all the users using ie, which is very low now, only 0.5% are using ie8:
