    Default Sending Newsletters Abruptly Stops

New Issue, suddenly when sending out my newsletters, it will stop/time out/quit after about 1500. The sending page just stops doing anything (no final text in red about checking for bounces). I've sent way more than 1500 at a time for years without issue. I use send-grid for my mailing and my account max is way above 1500 too.

Is there a place/log I can look at to possibly see an error or something related? I checked the php_errors log and didn't notice anything related to this.

It seems to occur after about 10 minutes of sending emails. I don't believe my hosting provider changed my max execution time (no error shows about it).

    Ideas?

I use send-grid for my mailing
I do not see a plugin for them listed
Did they provide you with code to allow this from the ZenCart admin?
Or are you sure that you are sending your newsletters via send-grid

It uses the SMTPauth. Basically is a 3rd party SMTP server and it is just entered at part of the configuration options in ZenCart. I've had good luck with them and a good delivery success rate.

Without any logged PHP error it's definitely hard to determine what's causing that.
And of course it's a tough one to test!

Observation: 1500 in 10 minutes works out to 2.5 seconds each ... that's actually really long since PHP is simply passing it off to the mailserver to do delivery. I'd expect it to take 0.3-0.5 seconds each, max.

Are there any errors recorded in your send grid account that might offer any insights? Have they cracked down on max number per hour or anything?

I had a similar situation and it turned out to be the result of my hosts limitations on the server.

Many hosts limit the number of outgoing emails either in a minute or an hour.

In my case, they wouldn't lift the restriction and I had to export my email lists to use in MailChimp.

The slower sending is due to the fact that it is reaching out to an external SMTP server, authorizing, and then sends the message, for each message. Not the fastest process. Checked with SendGrid, and they haven't changed any of their limits on my account. They are checking their logs to see if anything pops up, but nothing so far.

SendGrid is a way around this. It uses their SMTP server instead of the local hosting provider server.
