Code or mod to show all sub categories on homepage?

Hi there, I've search Google, the forums and looked for a mod to do this and turned up nothing...

I want to display the stores sub categories on the homepage, so for example if i have the following structure:

Cat A
--Sub cat 1
--sub cat 2
--sub cat 3
Cat B
--sub cat 4
--sub cat 5
--sub cat 6

I want to show "1,2,3,4,5,6" on the homepage in the standard zencart format (image + cat title) - I know I can show a specific category but not the content of multiple top level categories...???

Any help would be appreciated!

Seems like would take code from the categories listing section and bring it into the index main page but go at least one level deeper in the processing. If don't want the main category (example was to provide 1,2,3,4,5,6 and not the main category) then don't output the category just the "final" sub-category.

Thanks - I get the theory, it's just the coding I'm stuck with... :)

Anyone want to take this on? I don't think it's a massive job and I will pay anyone for their time obviously
