    Default category - subcategory database issue

    The cart was originally installed on a hosting and though it appeared it installed correctly, I found later that the database was not all there.

    The original indicator was that no top category would claim to have subcategories. Once I fixed the database problems (I thought), all categories are now showing the subcategories with one exception. However in admin, all is okay where it was not before the database fix.

    I checked and see that each subcategory lists the top category that has the problem as it should in the database. If you click directly into the subcategory there is no problem. It's only the link to the top category from any generated link in the cart (category sidebox, sitemap, etc).

    I cannot think what else could be at work here. I did reset the master categories ids in store manager.

    Anybody have any ideas?

    I would run the upgrade script for it's Zen version... then note all exceptions and see if that fixes it. Also, check for crashed tables if you haven't already.

    Things that come to mind are: the category that doesn't appear off of the top category, does it's parent_category database field point to that category (0 if category is to come off of the store root.), is there a category description for the "missing" category? Are there active products in the category as well as sub-categories? In the product_to categories table are there product that reference that category?

    no dice from the upgrade script

    Then I did realize I hadn't checked the possibility of a product in the master category. We had been importing products and lo and behold there was a dangling product in the products to category table but no product by that id in the products table! Didn't show in admin because there was no product but prevented the category from displaying correctly. Imports were set up by client - surprised there's not more wrong....

    Problem solved.
