Default product pricing showing differently in different places.

This is a stumper. Input price as 640.83. With tax 769. But if you view the product in the list in admin, it shows as 431.02 both there and in the catalog. I've made sure the template is not the cause of this. It's a new site and both the client and I are not aware of any config settings that we've changed that could cause this. That's 33% decrease.

There is no sales set up, no discounts set up, no specials - I checked both admin and the database.

The only mods that could affect anything beyond the template is checkout without account - same files I always use.

Most of the settings in admin are unchanged.

    Ghosts?

Anyone have any idea what in the world could be causing this?

What's the store's Country and Zone, in Admin->Config->My Store
Is the store set to tax-included pricing, and is it the same for both admin and non-admin?
What are all the tax rates that are set up for all the tax classes? And what zones are each of those tax classes assigned to?
And what currencies are configured, and their exchange rates as your store currently has configured?

Country is UK, no local zones

tax included or not does not change the amounts to correct amounts - shows identically in admin and in catalog

I set this up as I have set up his carts before - with a European VAT zone that includes the countries he worries about as he asked to have.

That is a VAT rate of 20% for the assigned European VAT zone.

Currency is GB pound with no other allowed currency.

And bingo - currency conversion was still set at .67. So I changed that to 1 and the miracle happened! Prices are fine now.

Thanks for making me think it all the way through!
