Default Attribute gives error when adding product to cart

We have a test version of Zen Cart V1.5.5a installed. When I try to add an item to the shopping cart the system throws the below error:

    Please correct the following:
On the Option for: Google Product Category You picked an Invalid Selection: Toys & Games > Toys > Dolls, Playsets & Toy Figures > Action Figures

Of course this is the attribute for Google Feeder and the user should not be able to see this on the screen nor should they get this error.

The attribute is flagged as "Display Only" which means "do not display" but it displays it anyway and gives the error.

    anyone help on this issue?
    Thanks

Make sure you didn't accidentally select "Required"

Select "Required" from where? We converted from V1.5.0 to V1.5.5a. All the attributes are the same. Where is this "Required" your referring too?

I found the "Required" for text. All products are OFF. - confirmed in the database and on the Attributes Controller screen.

Um, why would "display only" mean "not display"?

What plugins did you previously have installed? How was the css previously modified to hide these options? What plugins have been installed since then?

Typically attribute display is affected by includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/attributes.php which may have been modified in your original store to do things differently with your current data field setup when accessed on your old site.
