Another question, would it be possible to disable/remove the need for entering a telephone number when the customer checkout using the one page checkout? Either remove the field completely or at least make it non-mandatory.

Just like a regular customer creating their address record. Go to the admin's Configuration :: Minimum Values :: Telephone Number and set the value to 0. That removes the requirement for a telephone number entry; it doesn't remove the field from the customer's display.

Just started happening: the AJAX response to a change in shipping method (or payment method) shows up as raw text on the screen:

No code changes; might have been some hoster side changes but I'm not sure what.

Site is 1.5.8a running PHP 8.1 - also tested PHP 8.2. OPC is 2.4.6 (2023-08-19).

You know it's difficult to diagnose without knowing what changed, right?
