Default Classic Responsive Template - file permissions

Have tried editing define_main_page.php under both /includes/languages/english/html_includes/responsive_classic and under Tools in admin.

get error message in ftp client:
CHMOD 755 define_main_page.php: Operation not permitted

get error message under Admin -> Tools
Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /usr/local/4admin/apache/vhosts/pkasperassociates.com/httpdocs/classes/includes/languages/english/html_includes/responsive_classic/define_main_page.php

I'm unable to change file permissions from 644 to either 755 or 777. I've tried at both the file level as well as trying to change folder permissions a few levels above.

How do you set 755 file permissions on the template?

Most hosts have settings that do not allow changing file permissions thru an FTP program. Used to be different, but security concerns have led us to be more restrictive.

That said, Zen Cart recommends folder settings at 755 and file settings at 644. We set the two configure.php files to 444 after setup.

If you were successful in changing permissions BUT set them to other than recommended, that could be a problem.

I would get with your host to find out, first of all, how you can properly set permissions. If you have cpanel, it can be done in the file manager. It is particularly important that the html_includes folder is set to 755 as that holds the files for the define_pages.

Also, you don't mention if this is a new install, upgrade, etc. (those pesky posting tips) Data supplied when editing pages in the admin often goes into the database. You may have a problem with database access as well.

    Glad you got it resolved.
