Popularity of a product

I know I can check for how many units of products have been sold with Reports > Products purchased. Unfortunately, that can give a skewed information is one product has been in the store for a month and others for a year or more.
Is there a way to get the data to be combined in a way to have the average sales of products by day, or by week or by month? This would give a better indicator of what sells well and what does not than the simple total.

Maybe there is already a module for that, but i don't know what to look for.
Maybe the information is already available somewhere and I don't know where to look.
Maybe the information can be retrieved and combined somehow into a spreadsheet, but again, I would not know where to look.

Well there are report modules that may offer that type of filtering/calculation. Look through the plugins section.

Don't also forget that there may be a difference (and reason) for something to frequently purchased as compared to frequently looked at. Title of this thread made me think of products being looked at as compared to those being purchased.

Would you have another way to call this function? Not sure what to search for in the plugins section.

I found something that looks like it would be what I need, but it seems old. Not sure it would work with recent versions of ZC:

No more than you would in installing it, seeing if it works, reviewing the mydebug logs, asking others about ones I didn't understand and carrying on...

I've been happy with Sales Report just enough flexibility and just enough information made available to handle/manipulate it if necessary or if desired to modify the output somewhat like you are searching for: say sales per day while the product has been in stock or something.
