Default Re: Payment Capture in ZC 2.1.0? How/where is it?

Sorry if this was obvious and I just missed it. But is there any place that compares and defines all these various paypal capture and authorize methods. I tried setting up the new RESTful method and while it seems to be working fine on the site it fails to properly connect and do it's thing with PayPal. I find it very confusing to know which method I "should" use verses which method is "proper" for me to use based on how and what I sell or the type of paypal account I have, etc...

I'm not sure how to answer your question, since "fails to properly connect and do it's thing with PayPal" is fairly vague.

The support-thread for the PayPal RESTful payment module is here: https://www.zen-cart.com/forumdispla...ESTful-support

Besides the module's readme, there's additional documentation here: https://github.com/lat9/paypalr/wiki

All good and thank you for the info links. The purpose of my post was to see if there was some kind of comparison document or web page for the various PayPal processing methods. I could go read up about each one to figure it out, but I was hoping someone had done that and put together a kind of comparison chart/web page to help in selecting which one(s) to make use of based on maybe different circumstances. What, if any, are the advantages or disadvantages of one over another?

Start with PayPal Express. If you're just starting out, you don't need Pro and you shouldn't use Standard.

It's been using PP Exp for some time now. The client has a commercial PP account. (BrainTree) And I was thinking they should probably attempt to use the new module, but after setting it all up for them, it fails to connect to PayPal, so I aborted that process for now. That got me wondering just how important is it to move to the new stuff? And what the heck is the difference anyway? As long as it processes a credit card without having to login or create a PP account, that is all that is needed.

As always, thanks for the great (and fast) assistance. I have to say, this has been the best support forum I've ever had the privilege of using, and I've used a bunch over the years. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone involved with making this and ZC so amazing!

We'd like to get to the bottom of what you mean by "it fails to connect to PayPal", because the (current, but old) Express/Pro modules (and the very old Standard) module are being retired ... as in PayPal is intending to sunset them "soon"-ish.

The replacement, and most modern support, is with the RESTful module.

We're presently working on some feature updates to the REST module, so this is the ideal time to provide the details of whatever issues you're encountering with it.

Tip: If you enable the Debug config setting in the module (the last in the list of settings) and set it to Log File, it'll track whatever it's doing and record those details to the store's /logs/ folder, and that may help you and us sort out what's going wrong with whatever you mean by "it fails to connect to PayPal".

So ... please please, provide more details.

I have to wait to give you more details because it could just be my setup causing the problem. The site was hacked and it's been restored from a backup that was a previous version of ZC. The hacker had uploaded a bunch of stuff, a real mess. So I'm in the process of looking for some help as I don't have the time to work on it at that level just now. So give me time to get it all fixed and running the current version and I'll attempt the RESTful setup again and we'll see what happens.

It seemed pretty easy to plug all the needed things into the config and all, so I was disappointed when I set it as the default process and then attempted a purchase. At the point where ZC takes the visitor to a PayPal-generated display, I got an error msg (sorry don't recall what it said exactly), like it was unable to establish the secure connection to PayPal or a PHP file it was loading refused to load over a non-SSL connection perhaps. All I really remember is that the msg had the word "secure". I did notice a day or two later that the site was not switching to SSL, which may have been due to the hacking attempts. They like to mess with .htaccess.

I'll report any issues if I have them once I get things back to being a proper installation of ZC. (I'm just happy it is at least still processing orders.)
