Do I need to upgrade to v1.5.8 or 2.x?

Hi,

I run a computer repair business and I am trying to help a client who has a zen cart website - www . wiccanwizard . com . au
I know nothing about zen cart apart from what I have read recently

I have a feeling this question might not have a simple answer but here goes....
She is currently running v1.5.7c so does she need to upgrade to either 1.5.8 or 2.1?
Is she missing out on critical security updates?

I do not know what plugins or addons she has installed, how do I find out?

Also she is currently with hostpapa who are useless so we are going to move hosts, I have seen some recommended but does anyone have any personal recommendations?

To clarify swguy's points a bit further...

Upgrade straight to 2.1 - security updates are cumulative, and furthermore you need to consider the ever aging php versions - going as new as possible will further future-proof your client's site.

I had a quick squiz at the site and the most important plugins most likely are the OzPost plugin (for shipping) and Square webpay for payments.

Ozpost apparently is discontinued so you'll want to move to Australia Post plugin instead - https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread....ing-Module-2-0

For Square, take a look here - https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread....-Thread/page80 - but you'll be best off visiting https://mxworks.cc/ and purchasing the version there once you understand what its about.

The original site uses 'responsive classic' template which has had a major upgrade so you may want to consider how to incorporate that into the old design.

Anything else can probably be added to a working upgraded version later, but feel free to let us know the result of the mod list plugin if you choose to make use of it.
