Default Zen Installed - but got fatal error

    Hi

I spent some time looking at the error messages, but did not find the one I received. Zen Cart installed OK - but then when I tried to go to the cart or the admin area I got this error message

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: sniffer in /home/content/d/o/g/doglady/html/catalog/includes/autoload_func.php on line 78

I am not a programmer and can just make some of the php programs work. Would anyone be able to tell me how to repair the problem? I would sure appeciate any help I could get. I have spent the last 4 full days looking at carts and trying to find one that works. This looks like a nice cart.

Thank you for any help I can get. I really appreciate it.

    Pat,

I'm assuming since this is your first post and that you're evaluating various shopping cart applications, that you probably have not installed any addon's to Zen Cart.... thus your shop is a clean/fresh install.
If that's the case, then there should be no error message such as what you're seeing. However, such problems can occur generally in problems with an FTP upload.

I'm suspecting that you may have had some timeouts while uploading, and thus some of the files in the /includes folder/subfolders may be incomplete or corrupted.
May I suggest that you re-upload "/includes" and all its subfolders/files?
You shouldn't need to rerun the installer, just re-upload the files.
(by the way, do NOT overwrite the /includes/configure.php file on your server, or you WILL have to rerun the installer!! )

    Hello

Thank You for taking time to answer my question. Yes, I was having a lot of problems loading the files. We seem to be having a lot of internet problems lately. I have a pipline service which is fast, but the FTP program just kept stopping. I will take your suggestion and try reloading the files. It was a new installation.

Thanks again. I will let you know how things came out.

Hello Again!! I uploaded the includes files that you suggest and POW - the cart is working!!!! Thank YOu.

I have one more problem that I have read about, but can't change. I am getting the

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/content/d/o/g/doglady/html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

But when I try to chmod the file to 444, I can't. My program keeps changing it back to 644. So I have the red warning at the top of the window which can be seen by other computers than mine. Is there any other way to make it stay at 444???? Is it a problem with my FTP program or my domain host - who is Go Daddy???

Thank You again. I appreciate your help.

You have 2 options, only the first is recommended:

    1. Use your GoDaddy "file manager" (not sure its exact name) to mark the files read-only. Often hosts will prevent FTP programs from setting files to 444, but the hosting control panel will get you around it.

    2. You could manually edit a specific file to disable the warning, but this would still leave your site open to some vulnerabilities. Thus, is not recommended.

This one may become a big problem for yourself and others. You should do a search on www.webhostingtalk.com as this issue with godaddy has been discussed quite extensively as of late.

Apparently, they have disabled chmod functionality for users - and since they dont offer ssh and dont offer this capability from their file manager, it has created huge issues for people trying to run scripts like zen cart.

Not sure this helps, but, please let us know if you are able to accomplish this with godaddy (as frankly, I was floored to hear that they have disabled this - and even though several people have confirmed it, I just dont quite yet believe it)

Thank You to everyone who took time to write to me. I really appreciate it. I have several websites to do for a freind and have decided to try MidPhase instead of Go Daddy. I'll try loading Zen Cart on a website there. If I can't, they will load it for you. Since the account allows me to host as many websites as I want - I will probably change some of mine to them if they seem easier to work with.

Again Thank You for everyones help. Hopefully I will be a Zen Cart user soon.

    Pat
