If thats the case and your running windows then just right click on the file click properties and make it read only.

Thanks for all the help, but I think the issue is a code-based one.
I have set my permissions to 644 as per the instructions - my host does not allow 444 setting - but I still get the red configuration error flag at the top of the screen.
You can see yourself at:

The /zen/includes/configure.php file has permissions 644 but the flag does not go away.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Sounds like your host has set up of your riles read/write to apache?
If includes/configure.php is indeed 644, and your host will not allow 444(!) - then it appears that it is not possible to have any files appear as read-only to the web server.
That's a scary set-up! I only allow my web servers write access to a few areas....

I had this same problem ... and am new to ZC ... just installed today. I fixed it by going into my Cpanel and changing the codes. While I did change them via WSFTP, they didn't "take".

Hi,
I am using GoDaddy as my host haven't had an issue with anything until Thursday the 18th.
I had set the permissions when I installed the cart and it worked fine until Thursday.
I tried using my FTP to change them and it wouldn't accept it.
I went into the C panel and the permission folder does not light up. I would like to get this fix and not sure what my next step should be. I have been e-mailing with my hosting company since Friday when the problem occur and they give me the same instructions ove and over again.
Is there a way to change the permissions in editing the file?
I even went and downloaded the same cart version
Zen Cart v1.3.8a/v1.3.8
to find this file and found it to be No where in the files listed. configure.php does not exist in the zip file I down loaded. At first I thought I did the wrong one and went back to re download but I found its the same. I know I am missing something but I am sure its not on my end.
I do realize many had issues with GoDaddy and I am not sure if its there end. I don't want to add in that code that gets rid of the message until I can explore all other options. before someone says change hosts I cant and I wont be able to until a year from now. I am not code savvy but I can find my away through things if given the right steps.
I have searched the FAQ and the forums and this is the closest to my situation. Again any help to any article that can explain further on what I can do would be great!
Thanks
Tonie
