Creating A Custom Template...Help Please

hi everyone, i want to create my own template, in the old forum i know there was a page in the FAQs on exactly how to do it, but since the move its not there. i did a search but didn't see a thread that said exactly what files i need. i did find one thread and when i did what it said the template didn't show up in admin.
this is what i did

i copied these file from template_default to my template folder

common/tpl_footer
common/tpl_header
css/print_stylesheet
css/stylesheet
css/stylsheet_css_buttons
images/all file from template_default

i know some files are missing im just not sure which ones i need


do i need to copy all files from template_default


if anyone can let me know which files i need for this or point me to a thread i would really appreciate it

im using zen 1.3.0.1

you only need to copy the pages you need to change.

Zen Cart is built on a system called ‘overrides.’ When you have worked hard on customizing your site you do not want to lose all that work when a new version or cart update comes along. So, follow the guide for creating a custom template and it will ‘override’ the stock template.

Read, comprehend and apply these threads and you will be blessed by the Zen Cart magic. Your new custom template folder should only contain files that have been edited for your site. Copy the files from template_default, edit them, and make sure they are in the correct ’my_custom_template’ folder.

The Wiki is a great place to start. However, since the forum experienced an emergency reload, many of links have not been updated. Be patient.

thank you all for the help, muchly appreciated

misty that was actually the website i went to but there was a banner covering up the last two steps and i didn't realize it until i went back and had a look. so i used firefox and turned of the images. worked perfectly
