there is no way to run japanese icons for the japanese side of things and english icons for the english side of things?

Yes, they just have to be uploaded to the right place.
includes/languages/japanese/images and
includes/languages/english/images

are you sure its not includes/templates/template_default(your template)/buttons/(japanese/english)?

Just to let people know that it looks like all the files have been updated.

I checked the list here today

They have all been translated that I can see. I know that from that last zip file on here, they were not.

You might want to get download them all for FireFox so its easy to get what you need

Just and fyi if you are sending emails out in Japanese, then you should update your includes/classes/order.php file as this will add 様　after the name. If you don't it sounds kind of rude. Also make sure you update all the files under includes/japanese if youd haven't yet.
