Profuse apologies. The link was meant as a way to double check your permission settings. Sorry it did not help.

Hard for me to imagine how you get that error when permissions are set to 444. You may need to bump this up to one of the Zen masters like Kim above.

    Best wishes.

Bruce, I do appreciate your intent to help. Sorry for reacting strongly on mis communication.
I'm now trying to learn the DEMO and template revisions, so the other issue can wait a bit.

    Hi thimker,

Getting started can be frustrating and communicating via the forum leaves lots of room for misunderstanding.

When I was initially setting up my shop I received guidance and read tutorials suggested by forum members. I was amazed at how many times I left out a step or put a file in the wrong folder. Turns out I am not the only one. I see others doing the very same things in starting their shops. So, I try to point them to the FAQ's, Wiki and tutorials that helped me get started. It has a very high success rate.

I know that sometimes users have trouble when they use Control Panel to make changes rather than an FTP program. So, kindly, I do suggest you retrace your steps on the permissions. Triple check that you are editing the correct file. Then, if the problem persists you can get excellent help in the forum. While it is over my head to solve your problem, (with the appropriate pirate accent) "there be wizards in these parts" and they will help.

Glad to have you in the community.

    Best wishes.

To Bruce, or any "higher level wizard"

I have ripped and re installed over a dozen times, renaming the install folder and changing the two configs to 444, via FTP. I STILL get
" Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/oldcolor/public_html/zencart/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file."

I also tried customizing templates per docs, and had TOOLS ignore new folder. Did some changes in default folder, but would appreciate any experienced pointers for this part of job. (Somewhere, I read that standard templates have residues from prior releases which can confuse newbies.) Mostly I want to drop right boxes, insert my logo, then adjust details to my product line... and drop all those non-paying "sponsors".

What do folks charge for setups?

    Hi thikker.

Really sorry you are having these troubles. You can change your logo in includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (copy it from /classic into your custom folder). Some of the other things are handled in your admin. Configuration > Layout settings and Tools > Layout boxes controller.

Suggest you try (one more time I know) to set permissions using Control Panel. Try 444 and then try 644. If no joy, prepare a new post in the thread "Installing Zen cart" for the server you have. Give lots of details about the server and list the steps you have already taken. Also, you may have to contact your host to help with this.

As you can see from this thread - http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...iguration+file you are not alone in this problem.

Hope this helps you move forward.

    Good luck.
