Orders for items in quanty more than in stock?

I just received an order where a customer ordered 4 items in large quantities. I can back order some of the items, since I don't have the quantity he ordered, but one item ordered is no longer being produced and I only had 1 in stock while he ordered 5. He also ordered 30 of an item when I only have 3!

Many of the items I sell are one of a kind art and cannot be sold in multiples.

Is there a way to keep the Zen Cart from allowing customers to order more than the total number of pieces in stock of products?

Check your Stock Settings and set it there that you cannot checkout with more than what is available ...

Thank you both! I went into the zen cart and put the watcha-ma-all-it to the right way so no more orders for more than I have.

I have e-mailed the prospective customer telling him his order will come in several shipments. I won't ship anything until I have verification from my credit card processor that his shipment address is valid as the billing address for the credit card. The customer has already e-mailed me back saying several small shipments is fine. I always worry on orders over $100 and wait a while for extra verification from the CC processor before I ship. Thanks for the caution though!
