    thank you for the answer!

    i assumed that a customer would receive a redemption code.
    but, the fact that a customer does not get a code means the only way for them to give a gift certificate to another person is via email. right?

    do you have any recommendations as to the best way to get around this? - to make sure that a customer recieves a code just in case they would like to print the email and give it as a gift? to me, this would be a likely scenario.

    When someone purchases a Gift Voucher they receive an email with a link in it, which they use to Redeem that Gift Voucher. It's then added to their Gift Voucher Balance. Depending upon which version of CCGV you have installed they can then:
    1. Go to their Shopping Cart (when logged in) and go to GV Send. From there they can email the Gift Voucher (all or part of it) to someone else, along with a personal message.
    2. With a small modification to CCGV they can also go to their Account page and send it from there.

    thank you for your response to my question.

    you see, the problem i am also having is there is also NO link in the email. - at all.

    so, to me it doesn't appear to be a complete email and is a confusing experience for the customer.

    i do not know which version of ccgv i installed. i just installed zcart about two weeks ago. i opted for a test site installation, so the gv module was already installed when i started working with it.

    so, there is no link to my store in the email. any suggestions?

    You could email it to yourself (same or different email address, doesn't matter), print it, and physically deliver it. The code is good for anyone who chooses to redeem it ... it's not tied to a given email address.

    dr. byte, i'm not sure if you are joking about delivering it physically, but either way that's pretty funny. it sure would be great customer service.
    delivery by mail seems to defeat the purpose of selling gift cs online.(to me)

    seriously, is there a way to generate the number in the first email the customer gets? some people are going to want to print out the gift certificate as it is a "gift".

    maybe i should just let it go. it could be worse.

    at any rate, thank you again for your help explaining this to me. you certainly took a load off of my head.

    p.s. i don't know which people on this board are responsible for developing this cart and maybe you are one of them, but i want them all to know that i love it and have grown quite attached to my new little zen cart.

    I was actually serious about printing out the email.

    I suppose one could write a module that would add an option to the "Send A Gift Certificate" page that would allow you to print the page with a referral code on it, instead of only emailing it. Regardless, you'd still have to generate it from within your account after the administrator has released the Gift Certificate funds to your account.

    that is a great idea about the module. (i would do it myself, mmm but it is a little over my head at this point in time and i am sick and tired of breaking my zen cart.)

    just want to say thanks for your response and for the link to the team page. i was surprised to find out that the team is so small. wow. I really cannot imagine how busy your lives must be.

    If you want the option of sending people real (printed) Gift Vouchers then I'd run them as two separate products.

    Product A would be a nicely printed physical Gift Voucher, with a weight attached to it so it would be a non-virtual product with a shipping address and shipping charge (to cover your printing and postage costs). If you don't have a physical shop and they stilll have to use it online then set up a Discount Coupon for that amount and print the Discount Code on the paper Gift Voucher. Make sure it's set up for single use only.

    Product B would be an e-Gift Voucher with no weight, and no shipping charge.

    The problems that might arise would be if you had an online shop and a physical shop - keeping track of the use.

    thank you for ideas. i think they are good, but i am trying to avoid sending a gv by mail. once i get the store going that may change.
