Serious Delay Loading Pages

Hi,

I have a serious perfomance problem with zencart. I have only about 10 items in the catalog. But, for some reason there is rougly an 8 second delay when clicking on links in the store. I've turned off category counts as suggested in other threads but it didn't help. This lag time happens on all pages, even the home page, checkout process pages, etc.

I have three osCommerce stores on this same server (with only a few items in the catalog in each store) and they each run fast, no delays in loading pages. But not zencart -- it has noticeable lag time between page loads.

Any ideas why this happens? Any suggestions for performance tuning? Any way to find out what the delay is caused by? Maybe some indexes I can add to the database, config settings to adjust, code to modify?

If this only happens on FIRST hit to your site ... and then you run fast ... this is because your hosting site has not set up your server for a faster analysis of the gethostbyaddr translation of the IP Address ...

This is mainly for the Who's Online in the admin to see who is who in the zoo ...

You can either ask your host to fix this issue ... or turn it off in the Configuration ... Session ... settings ...

"IP to Host Conversion Status" is turned off already. So that's not the problem. It must be something else.

Here's what I see: If I click on an item it takes 8 to 10 seconds before the page begins to load. Then if I immediately click on another item it'll load within 2 to 3 seconds. But, if I wait for about 30 seconds THEN click another item, it goes back to taking 8 to 10 seconds to load. That's odd.

Be a lot easier to touch the site and tell you what's wrong than to guess all night ...

I run zencart 1.3.0.1 -- Any know if there known page load performance problems?

Having played on the site ...

You have nothing to account for this dog site ... other than possible server issues ...

I have never seen a site with 4000+ products, 1600+ categories and 40,000+ attributes run that slow ... and you only have 9 products ...

Check with your hosting site about perhaps a less overloaded server ... or check into our Certified Hosting sites ...

Getting closer to opening this site, so any input would be great. I'll bug my hosting company also. Did not have this issue with another store on the same server. (Also get random errors from the site on one computer here, reload the page and all is fine..)

Might do a search on Dreamhost for a number of threads on the experiences with this hosting site ... see if they can put you on a less populated or faster server ...

Then you might wish to take a peek at our Certified Hosting sites for a better experience ...

While your images are rather large ... that does not explain the slowness of your site ...

Turning on GZip would help to some extent to speed things up ...
