Differences in IE and Firefox

After I finished dancing and celebrating because I was able to change the logo and colors (I won't say how many hours it took for me to get there), I started rearranging my template. I changed the header so that the navigation links come directly after the logo.

When I looked at it in Firefox, I got the effect I was going for, where the links were immediately to the right of the logo. In IE though, the links seem to have their own row directly beneath the logo.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the Firefox effect in IE?

I created my template by copying the template_default folder and renaming it, then changing the stylesheets and files from there.

The navigation layout I'm going for is similar to the one at http://www.macmall.com

This is a matter of web standards compliance. No browser is 100% compliant with w3c standards, but Firefox is a lot more compliant than IE. So, you can work in one of two ways:

1. If you want your site to be as close to w3c standards as possible then code it for Firefox. However, you'll then have to find out all of the IE non-compliant effects and write solutions for that into your CSS and html.

2. Write it so that it works in IE and ignore the other 20% who don't use IE. In terms of your actual customer base this figure will probably rise to well over 90%.

Don't flame me for this statement - it's not a viewpoint, just a sad fact of life.

Thanks, I'm probably going to have to go with number 2 on Vger's suggestion list and break things so they work in IE.

I'm going to try using images instead of text to see if IE doesn't mess around with it as much.

I was also wondering if putting the header in a table where there's one column for the logo, and one column for the navigation panel might help. Will it disrupt anything as far as the css goes?

You can use a table, but sometimes tables behave strangely when wrapped in divs.
