1. So, you're trying to say that you want the customer to pay by coupon and get their download for free, with instant download?

2. What payment modules do you have activated?

Hello,
Well not always get it free sometimes they would just be getting a discount but yes when they have used a coupon that pays the balance they should be able to get the download. I have Moneyorder, free and Paypal for payment options.

If you look in the Configuration ... GV Coupons ...

Default Order Status For Zero Balance Orders
When an order's balance is zero, this order status will be assigned to it.

Ok, so their is no issue after all then. So if someone chooses Money order that would leave the balance and they will not get teh download. I will have to test that. Thanks so much

I set an item as a downloadable product (PDF which has been zipped) and what I'm trying to do is when people order it and checkout, that they can download immediately without me having to update the status to Order Updated every single time.

here is how I have the product set:
Product is Free *
Tax Class: none
Products Price: 0.00
Product is Virtual: Yes, skip shipping address

The ability get a Download that has been purchased is related to the Orders Status ...

The settings are >= 2 (Processing) or <= 4 (Updated) ...

So if you want Check/Money Order to wait until you check the order, set the Orders Status on the Payment Module for Check/Money Order moneyorder to Pending (orders_status 1) ...

If you want Credit Cards to be immediate, then set your Payment Module to either Processing (orders_status 2) or Delivered (orders_status 3) ...

WARNING: Downloads are NOT Virtual Products ... you just think they are ...

A Download knows there is no shipping based on the download filename in the Attribute ... do NOT mark the Product as Virtual ...

Downloads are:
Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required

Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

Note: also for Free Products, be sure to install the Modules ... Payment Modules ... Zen Cart Free Charger freecharger ... so that you can checkout

The Zen Cart Free Charger will only show on orders that are $0.00 ... and when it shows, the other Payment Modules do not ... and when it should not show, the other Payment Modules will show ...

When you say a Free Product with a Download ...

Is this a Physical Product that is Free plus includes a Download?

If so, does the Physical Product have Free Shipping or is there Shipping Charges required?
