Downloadable product

No, it's not a physical product. It's a PDF I want people to be able to download as a freebie.

Free charge card is set to (4) order updated
Downloads are all released with this order status.

For testing I took two products:

design 1 -
Product is free: yes
Tax Class: none
Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address
Always Free Shipping: No

design 2 -
product is free: yes
tax class: none
product is virtual: no
always free shipping: no

placed test orders and I still had to manually update the status to "order updated" to make them available for download.

in modules payment:
modules:
freecharger is set to order status: Order Updated
paypal is set to order updated
check/money order and credit card are set to processing

Not sure if there is anything else I need to do... I'm lost

Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

Set Free Charger freecharger to Orders Status Delivered (orders_status 3)

NOTE: Updated orders_status 4 is used when you need to re-enable a download for someone ...

PayPal, by default is set to the right settings ...

Some may change the Orders Status to Delivered (orders_status 3) but usually prefer to leave it at Processing (orders_status 2) so they can review the order ...

The Configuration ... Attribute Settings ... should be set as:

Downloads Controller Update Status Value 4
Downloads Controller Order Status Value >= lower value 2
Downloads Controller Order Status Value <= upper value 4

Check/Money Order is usually set to Orders Status 1 or Pending to confirm that money is received before the Download is available ...

Version of Zen Cart is 1.3.6
upgrading to new version at this point is not possible at this time, but still shouldn't be required since it's a problem with a basic module and/or setting.

When someone purchases a design that has a PDF as an attribute, if they pay by pal pal, they are able to download it immediately as soon as the transaction is complete.

When someone orders a design that is set to 0.00 (item is free), I have to manually update the order status to 4 (order updated). It doesn't do it automatically - wish it did.

Check the setting on Configuration ... GV Coupons ...

Default Order Status For Zero Balance Orders
When an order's balance is zero, this order status will be assigned to it.

Set this to 4 for now ...

I believe this is somethiing that is fixed in v1.3.7 that had a problem in v1.3.5/6 ...

Set it to 4, placed a test order and it still says "processing"

I am not sure what to tell you off hand as the v1.3.6 I have loaded I can alter the Free Download with the GV Coupon setting ...

I will have to fool with this further when I get some time ...

Best solution is wait for v1.3.8 ...

NOTE: I am not sure why you cannot control this with the GV Coupon setting on the Free Order status in your current version as a temporary fix ...
