Enhanced Search

I am developing a website with ZenCart 1.2.6d. The search and advanced search are both restricted to products. The problem with this is that I have a lot of categories with information but no products. I also have additional pages edited with the Define Pages Editor that I'd like to come up in search queries. Has anybody enhanced the search tool in Zen Cart? I can code my own but would rather not reinvent the wheel. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
