Moving Categories

I woud like to rename and move a category into a differant category turning it into a sub-category. I have tried using the green edit button and the puple move button on the main category page in the admin to no avail. Am I missing something or can't this be done?

I think that what you need to do without my actually doing it is:

Create the subcategory under the top cat that you want first

Then move the products to that location

Last delete the category that you have just emptied.

I've just tried it on a 1.3 cart and Moving a category (and contents - sub-cats and products in the sub-cats) is no problem. Copying/duplicating/linking is presently a bit tedious as that has to be done product by product...but hopefully not for long as I believe bunyip has ideas about a mod for this.

    Re: Moving Categories

Thanks, for the help. However, I am still having problems. I use the move function and tell Zen where I want the category placed and hit the save button. The screen moves to the new location but the category does not. What am I missing? I know I am new at this, but I am really feeling stupid now.

I think that I suggested not moving the category and instead moving the products to a new category/sub-cat.

If the category mov is not working look back at my first post...

    Re: Moving Categories

I hoped to avoid moving item to a new category product by product. I am showing over 1,000 items. I also checked and am running ZC 1.2.6 which might be the problem. I am also reluctant to upgrade to the newest ZC because I have made many code changes. Therefore, I guess I must choose the lesser of two evils, upgrade and make code changes or move products one at a time .

An alternative would be to use EZpopulate, but you must have unique "model nos" per product and you would need to set your category system up on your site first...if you go that route, test it out with just a few products, specifically ones with attributes.

    Re: Moving Categories

I think “model nos” means Model Numbers. If I’m correct then yes each item has it’s own number. However, what is EZpopulate? That one I do not know. By the sound of it’s name it sounds like it might do the trick.
