Help With Attributes

Hi,

I have been searching the FAQ and the forum for some time now. I need to ask how to use the attributes. I want to offer different color choices for the same product. No price difference is needed. It seems that everyone has no problem with it but don't understand how the attribute function works I have been trying for hours and just don't understand the basics of it at all. I don't even know where to start. So I just need a basic how to add the some attributes. Pardon my ignorance but any information would be a great help. Thanks in advance

The download for the Improved attribute is in the downloads section of the forum, it really is a top-notch must-have addition.

The thing about attributes is to just jump in and get started.

To quickly get started with adding colors to you products go to ADMIN | OPTION NAME MANAGER. Add the attribute name 'Color' and click insert.

Click on OPTION VALUES. selct 'Color' and type in the actual colors for the products; Red, Yellow, Green, etc. inserting after each color. Add all the colors you will need for all your products.

After you have your colors entered click on ATTRIBUTE CONTROLLER and select the product you wish to add colors to and click display.

Go down the page to ADDING NEW ATTRIBUTES and select Color on the left side and select the colors for the product on the right side of the box and insert. If you have the Improved attributes contribution you can select all the colors for that product at once and then insert.

There are of course better explanations in the FAQ and elsewhere in the forums but hopefully this will get you started.

Sorry for the multiple posts... but I forgot to tell you to add a Value called 'Color' with a sort order of 0 show it will show up first in the list (be sure to add sort orders to the rest of the colors as well).

Then when you are in the Attributes Controller add the value 'Color' to you list and set it as 'Display Only' and if you want set it to 'Default'. This will force the buyer to choose a color before they can place an order.

Thanks Lawman, that all helps very much. I was able to implement it right away and had no further problems. I appreciate the help, and love working with zen cart.
