backup error result code: -1, database has not been saved

I thought I was doing backups, but there is no information contained in the backup. I get this error message when going through Tools/database backup.

I went to my hosting service to try to do a manual backup from there. Couldn't find a way.

Why am I getting this error message? What can I do to solve the problem?

We have not updated to the new version because we have some customization that we feared losing. Not sure which version we have, but copyright is 2003.

    Thank you.

When using the Database Backup-MySQL option from the Tools menu, and you click "Backup" to start a new backup, you are presented with a few checkboxes and another "backup" button.

When you're on that screen, before you click the "backup" button under the checkboxes, put &debug=ON in the URL of your browser, then press Enter, and then click Backup.

You should get some debug messages in the top line. What are they ?

    1. is your /admin/backups folder writable?
    2. does a file get created in that folder, at all?
    3. I'm guessing the problem is a result of the webservice not having rights to run the EXE's .... and usually the host doesn't like to give such access, for security reasons. IIS is especially crappy for that.

Worst case you might be stuck with using phpMyAdmin.

This is what solved my problem:

    I click "restore" it says

    "uploaded successfully
Result code: -1" or something like that...

Now that it was uploaded I clicked the file and click the restore button on the far-right and everything turned out good.

    Database restored successfully!
