generating order numbers

Hi i'm kinda new to zencart and php for that matter.

i've customized a DIBS payment module, and one of the parameters i have to post to the payment service is an order number.
As far as i can see zencart only generates a order number after the payment transaction succeds.

is there any way to get the order number prior to calling the payment service

You would have to generate a temp order number and pass it to the processor. This would require a extra table to log this...
