    Default Search Question

After playing with this cart I have come to realize that the Search only searches the actual products and not the top part of tha page. Correct?

Is there a way to get the search to also see the top of the page and not just the products?

Example: I have a replacement filter for XYZ Water System. This filter is also a replacement filter for 2 other water systems. If I title one page XYZ Water Filters and another 123 Water Filters and link the one filter to both pages, when someone does a search for 123 Water Filters, nothing shows up as the filter that is linked to it is an XYZ filter.

It would be great if the search feature could only search the pages and not the products. This way, should someone search for 123 Water Filters, the 123 Filter page would show up with the list of filters. This way I could have a filter named ABC Filter linked to both XYZ page and 123 page and when someone searches for XYZ, the link to XYZ page would show up.

Since I do have one filter that is used as the replacement in about 80 different drinking water systems, this would allow me to link this one filter under each manufacturer instead of adding it separately under each manufacturer. Even though this one filter is used as the replacement for different manufacturers, each manufacturer uses a different stock number.

If there were a way to have the manufacturer stock number up in the main page description part of the page (on top) and have the search feature be able to see this instead of the actual product, I could use the link feature instead of adding the same filter 80 different times under a different part number. This would also allow me to change the price/discounts/attributes of only one filter and have it changed on all filters.

    I hope I didn't confuse everyone.

    I am using version 1.3.0.1.

Yeah, I've often thought that would be a good thing to have.

I'm not sure if this is a viable solution or would suit you, but I worked round it partially by using cross sell.

Additionally, you could consider making some searches, copying the URL that results from those searches (where you know the product is what you want) and make that a link on the front page, or an EZpages sidebox. Sort of like a "pseudo-category".

    kelvyn,

Thank you for your reply. Although your answer doesn't solve my delimma, I do need to add the cross sell feature and I completely overlooked it.

If anyone want to see what I am trying to do you can go to my old fashioned web site at www.purewater4u.com and see how the search works. If you were to search for a certain filter there, the search results would list all the PAGES that this filter is on, not the individual filter itself.

Example; I have filters for a Rainsoft Model 9339 drinking water system and a Model 9338 system. These are two different systems and they use the same sediment prefilter. The prefilter we use is manufactured by Purtrex and has a stock number of 93023. Rainsoft lists this filter as stock number 9747.

If I could place Rainsoft stock number 9747 up at the top in the page description (stating that our number is 93023), and have the search see it, I could then link Purtrex 93023 to this page. When someone searches for 9747, the Rainsoft Model 9339 and 9338 PAGES would show up in the search results and not the individual filter.

I know I could put 9747 in the 93023 meta tags but this filter is used for about 80+ different water systems and would only cunfuse everyone.

On my current site, all the words on the page are searched so as long as I have Rainsoft number 9747 anywhere on the page, the search results show the Rainsoft WEBPAGE that this filter is listed on. I guess this is what I would like to do with Zencart.

Kelvyn, once again, thanks for the cross sell.
