    Default importing data via EasyPopulate

    Hi,

I've just spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to do a bulk import of data into ZC, and looked at the EasyPopulate tool (it seemed easier than importing directly into MySQL).

However, I can't get it to work.

Is it necessary to create the product types / categories, and then the manufacturors, directly in Zen Cart, and then try and import all the product data ?

I find the info on EasyPopulate / importing quite sparse, so I'm not sure where to look or what to do first....

    Thanks
    Neil.

Have you successfully installed EP? Are you getting an error message? If so what is it?

I installed it OK, and it seems to be working.

However, I suspect my problem is what I am 'feeding' it with. To be honest, I find the docs a bit confusing.

I tried to import about 250 products, accross different categories. However, all I ended up with was one product under 'washing machines'.

Therefore, back to my original point, I'm unclear with to input generic product types before I upload the products, or whether this can be handled with one upload.

Sounds like you may have an EOREOR error. Make sure that each and every product line ends with EOREOR. If you scroll to the far right of your spreadsheet you will see a column with that in the title. Just copy it into every line that has a product.

    Then try your import again.

If you specifiy the product category in the spreadsheet, EP will create the category for you on the fly. No need to create the categories in Zen first.

I too am having some trouble with EasyPopulate. It installed successfully, I exported a file to use as a template for my file I need to upload. I prepared file and attempted to upload and have the following errors. I do have EOREOR at the end of each line. I would appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you.

    OK,

Adding the EOREOR at the end of each line seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the tip.

I just have one additional point which I can't seem to figure out.

I have imported the names of the images, but can't seem to figure out which dircetory to dump them into ?

I added them to 'uploads' and 'samples' subdirectories, but can't still get them to show up ?

    Thanks
    Neil.

    Err,, I see your point...

I (mistakenly) assumed that they would be stored under one of the subdirectories under 'images', and not under the root of the directory.

    Works perfectly.

Many thanks for all your help on this.
