I'm (working on) using EasyPopulate 1.2.5.4, and don't understand the function of the v_products_model column.

Should these values be numeric or alpha values? (e.g.: '1" or 'Product-General')?

When I used a numeric value, Zen-Cart's Products Price Manager tagged my items as having an Invalid Master CategoryID (but I used a CategoryID ZenCart generated).

v_products_model corresponds to the products_model field in the Products table and is a 32 byte Alpha Numeric. You use it because rather like an index field and without it, Easy Populate will NOT write any data to your db. So use something like - SONY-HD-100 - it's just a notation that's all
