I have a web site already designed and would like to know if I can use only the shopping cart and the checkout sections or do I have to use the templates. If I can could you give me a brief description on how to do it or point me in the right direction for info.

You would need to take the design of your existing site and create a custom template with the Zencart code in so it looks like your current site but uses the zencart back end.

You can do this by creating template over-ride folders in various places of the zencart directories and Zencart will know to use the custom file instead of its default one.

There are lots of helpful threads in this forum which will give a really good insight in what to do, plus read the FAQ section about Template Over-rides and also look at the Wiki. Look in the designing and customising Forum and the archived threads for lots of useful information.
