Which version of ZC are you using? I'd upgrade to 1.3.0.1 if you haven't done so already.

i think it is the latest version -

i am using powweb for hosting and they automatically install zencart -- so i cant imagine it being an older version.

should there be a file "default logo.gif"

bc, in that folder there isnt anything like that.

what else could i do to change the ZC logo on the top?

I wouldn't assume that your hosting company is using the latest version of Zen Cart. Two reasons: firstly a post a couple of days back where it turned out that the web host (who also automatically installed Zen Cart) was still installing version 1.2.5 (what happened to 1.2.6, 1.2.7, 1.3.0 and 1.3.0.1?), and secondly because if it was the latest version, Clyde's suggestion should have worked.
