    Default bettercategories bug?

In reviewing the better categories mod I see the stylesheet a bit corrupt. View it in a stupid text viewer or a hex viewer to see the following hex characters at the start of the file: "ef bb bf" . These are to do with specifying the file as a UTF character set.
Probably harmless but it is not known how each web server and browser will deal with these characters.

The contrib is also full of Mac .DS_Store files.

So before I start working on this, does anyone have a complete and correct compilation of this contrib for zen 1.3?

    Thanks

the download on the 2nd page of this thread works http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35062 (except for the information box which didn't work for me), no corruption as far as I can see which might be caused by the software you are using to extract the files. As far as the extra Mac files, I've seen this before in contribs, but its no problem. Just don't upload them .

I was just looking at the info box bug. In the modules folder the information.php.php should be renamed to information.php.

I wish there was a central place to discuss these contribs instead of it being spread out over 10 different threads in the forum. At least a uniform keyword we could use to search. For example if you search "bettercategories" and "better categories" you get different results in the forum. Or a bugzilla type of tracking program for contribs. It's easy to miss stuff and for example oscommerce is hopeless for this reason (among others).

I did download that fix file you pointed out and it does have the bug with the UTF declaration at the beginning of the CSS file. You need an editor that will display the garbage characters instead of it assuming you want it to be a UTF file. If this was a php file you could spend 20 hours trying to find the bug.

Haha, well, there seemed to be a new, 1.3 bettercategories thread, the one I pointed out, until you started a new one.

    Guilty!

I didn't want to extend the other thread with a "where is" question going back 30 days because you all seemed pretty busy extending this to ezpages etc...

Anyways, I have compiled the corrections and posted a new zip file here for those looking for it:

    http://www.amtechdisc.com/zen-cart/Zen-cart.htm

This is bettercategories wiith better infobox. It likely won't work with ezpages.

Sweet! That is good news. I'm gonna add the necessary files to get it to work with ezpages and possibly submit it to the download section since the original author doesn't seem to want to, and I know what a pain in the ######## it was to find the first time.
