Continue to Checkout not working

Hi Everyone,
I am a newb looking for some help as I am stumped. I know HTML and a bit of PHP but I am not too advanced.

I have set up a local Zen Cart which seems to be okay until I was testing out the ordering procedure.
I can add products to the shopping cart and I can view the shopping cart and I click on "Go To Checkout" button but then it goes wrong after that. I am on page index.php?main_page=shopping_cart Where the title is "Step 1 of 3 - Delivery Information"
When I click on the "Continue To Checkout Button" the page seems to refresh but I cant move on. Is it because it is a new Cart and I need to set up payment options or something? I have set up the zones, currency, taxes, and checked that "Cash On Delivery" payment module is installed - and now I am out of my depth.

I was reviewing the "Delivery Information" page as I actually want to add a checkbox to the page "This is not a Rural address" which wont allow the user to proceed to the checkout untill It is selected (as I dont want to ship to rural addresses yet)
but I get stuck at this stage 1.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I just had a thought about possibly shipping not being being installed, but the items have weight and I have the "PerWeightUnit" Shipping module turned on.

Sounds like you may want to check if your shipping settings in admin match products, etc.

Thanks, but what do you mean?

Do you mean checking the shipping in the product setup? The product has setup:
"Product is not Virtual Shipping address required"
"Always FRee Shipping - No, Normal Shipping Rules Apply"

oh, I changed the produst to "Free Shipping" and there were more options. I guess its something to do with shipping.
Is perweightunit as a shipping option not set up or something?

So did you fix this problem cause i just noticed i'm stuck on step 1 of the checkout also.

what did you end up doing to fix it?

Just a thought.

Some folks will enter a zone in their shipping method misreading it all the while. Make sure you're not excluding a zone while thinking you are including it.

It seemed to be a problem with no shipping options.

In admin I installed the Store Pickup module.

I did have the perweightunit module installed but that didn't seem to give me any options. Anyone know how to use this module?

Or anyone know how to write their own shipping module? I know the freight algorithm I want to used based on the number of units in the order and the total weight but I am still hacking around in the shipping modules to see if I can create my own. I have modified some of the ones there but I dont understand it yet. If there are any guides that would be good (I know the class structure, just haven;t looked deep enough into it to understand the things yet - like the shipping module extends 'base' where is 'base' so I can look at the structure?

yeah i got it working i few mins after i posted it was that i didn't have any shipping modules installed

Just to add my experience here for the benefit of others:

Using Zencart 1.3.7

I had the same problem, i.e. stuck at step 1 and not able to jump to Step 2.

I had installed only one shipping module: Free Shipping

But the product that I was trying to buy was mistakenly marked as "No, Normal Shipping Rules" in the product setup process.

So when I wanted to proceed to step 2, the script was not happy with the fact that I only had the free shipping module installed, yet this product required a shipping calculation...that's a contradiction. So it would just send me back to Step 1 again and again, i.e. I was stuck at Step 1.

Solution: Edited the product in question to change shipping type to "Yes, Always Free Shipping". That totally solved the problem right away.

Hope that helps someone else in this same situation.
